We'll start by removing any existing walkout, landscaping, decking, and fences as necessary, hauling away debris. Our process involves drilling and installing 4-foot deep pilings, 8-10 inches in diameter, at a maximum of 5-foot intervals throughout all grades, including treads and risers. Next, we construct footings reinforced with 18-inch dowels connecting to the foundation wall.
Using solid concrete or a "solid" fill concrete block (size determined on-site), reinforced with 15m rebar, we ensure structural integrity. We incorporate weepers after constructing walls or integrate a minimum 1/4” tubing into the wall, placed at the very bottom and at 2-foot intervals (whichever method chosen). We ensure weeper locations have a 4-inch layer of 3/4" clear gravel, acting as a filter to release hydrostatic pressure, alleviating stress on the wall.
Choose between Split face block or a smooth surface with a parge and roll-on coating. Backfill and compress native soils or use HPB aggregates (based on project or time of year). For de-icing, use only sand, as other products, including salt, can damage the concrete surface and void your warranty. Coping stones are optional, serving to deflect water away from the wall.
